One of those acts is D’Corey Johnson, the 11-year-old singer from Louisville.

His voice swept the judges and audience off their feet, gaining him all four yeses.

Who is D’Corey Johnson?

D’Corey Johnson is a star-spangled sensational singer, who gained fame at just 9 years old.

The principal of James H. Bates Elementary School, let him sing the national anthem during morning announcements, while she recorded it.

She then asked his mother for permission and posted it online which went viral gaining widespread attention.

It also led to considerable media attention including a special visit to Louisville by Lester Holt, the anchor of NBC Nightly News.

This visit was then posted as a feature story on NBC News where he said that he learned to sing since three years old.

His notable performance includes NFL games, Daytona 500, Churchill Downs racetrack, and the kick-off play at the Louisville Bats.

But perhaps the most notable one in recent times would be securing a spot on the National Tour of the Legendary Dionne Warwick Hits the Musical.

Journey to America’s Got Talent

‘I watch AGT on a daily basis and Simon is my favorite as he is like my mama’ is what D’Corey said in front of all judges.

Then he started performing the song ‘Open Arms’ by Journey.

Simon however asked him to perform the song a cappella, and oh wow, how good his voice is.

Standing ovation from the audience, and also from his favorite judge, Simon, made him burst to tears.

Sofia Vergara, the fellow judge, then said, ‘D’Corey, I think you definitely have a place on Broadway.’

After the judges’ comments, Simon expressed how he felt about the performance and added,

“I love to be the first person to say YES!”

D’Corey’s parents support him

D’Corey Johnson hails from Louisville, Kentucky, and is from an African-American family.

Johnson always gets support from his parents in doing his things. However, little is known about his parents.

Nakia ‘Ne-Ne’ Johnson, his mother, talking with WAVE News revealed that D’Corey always loved singing, and once she heard him singing Michael Jackson’s song.

She said,

“When I just knew, I say, he is gonna be a star, and as I said that I was watching him, and I was like that’s my son like that’s D’Corey, I birth this child”

Nakia is a hairstylist and owns a hair salon, but she spends much of her time with her son.

D’Corey describes his mother as,

“She styles me, she cuts my hair, so she is my hair stylist; she chooses a lot of outfits and then she writes my songs.”

D’Corey’s father, Corey Johnson, also supports him in his journey to music. However, not much about his father is known.

D’Corey started singing when he was just about three.
