American Idol season 21: Who is Iam Tongi?
Just like the previous season (20), this season (21) also has contestants with full potential. Among the top 13 finalists, Iam Tongi is the one with the most viewed audition this year.
His performance has been viewed more than two hundred thousand times on YouTube and more than a hundred million times across all social media.
American Idol judges had teary eyes as Tongi sang James Blunt’s ‘Monsters’ song. He shared his story about a son saying goodbye to his father before launching into the song.

Who is Iam Tongi?
Iam Tongi (born September 1, 2004, as William Guy Tongi) is a singing artist and songwriter from Kahuku, Hawaii. He is an 18-year-old high school senior who started singing when a teacher helped him learn how to play ukulele in fifth grade.
Tongi is of Tongon, Samona, and Latin-Irish descent, and currently attends Decatur High School, in Washington.
The school’s official Facebook page shared Iam’s steller audition captioning it, ‘Proud of this amazing Gator! Yitadee!! 🐊.’
Iam, as the best sibling brother, wrote a song, ‘Dream,’ for his sister’s wedding.

His parents and siblings
Iam hails from a close-knit family. He was born to parents Rodney Guy and Lillie N Rodney Tongi.
He is a brother to two sisters, Cassandra Alvina Tongi, and Leilei Tongi, and a brother named Lerod Tongi.

His father, Rodney, left him forever with death more than a year in December 2021. Rodney was 50 years old at the time of his death.
Iam’s father was the one who introduced him to the realm of music, and he is still healing from the scar.
He dedicated ‘Monsters’ song to his late dad
With a guitar by his side, Iam entered the audition room and explain that he grew up in Hawaii.
For his audition song, Iam chose Monsters by James Blunt, which the English singer released in 2019 as a tribute to his father.
Lionel Richie, judge, after wiping tears away said,
“I was not worried about whether you were going to make it through it the song, but whether we were going to make it through.”

Wears a scarf around his neck
Ever since earning his golden ticket to American Idol, Tongi started wearing a scarf.
He said that he is taking extra good care of his body by drinking plenty of fluids and wearing a warmed scarf around his throat.
Talking with the Kent Reporter, he said,
“My voice is never ready. Every time before I sing, I always lose my voice.”
Is Iam dating?
Despite being a public figure, Iam Tongi has maintained good privacy when it comes to his personal affairs.

His romantic life remains a mystery as there is no information regarding his relationship status.
William prefers focusing on his music career rather than publicizing his relationship. He seems to be single at a moment.
