MTV has announced Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods, a new Grease: You’re the One that I Want-like reality series that will aim to find an actress to take over the lead in Broadway’s Legally Blonde production, will premiere Monday, June 2 at 10PM ET/PT.

Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods will follow 10 actresses living together in a New York City loft as they compete for the role of Elle Woods by learning the Broadway production’s various dance routines and musical numbers while also participating in rehearsals and workshops.

Guiding the contestants will be actress Haylie Duff — who has played the role of Amber von Tussle in Broadway’s Legally Blonde — and renowned theater vocal coach Seth Rudetsky.

In addition, the contestants will also be assisted throughout the eight-episode series by Legally Blonde The Musical’s choreographer and director Jerry Mitchell; associate director Marc Bruni; associate choreographer Denis Jones; and several cast members, including Laura Bell Bundy (Broadway’s original Elle Woods), Nikki Snelson, Orfeh and Richard H. Blake.

An MTV casting representative has confirmed the network will be holding auditions for an upcoming Grease: You’re the One that I Want-like reality show that will aim to find an actress to take over the lead in Broadway’s Legally Blonde production, Playbill reported Monday.

An Orlando Sentinel blog announced the city’s Shakespeare Theater will be holding an open-casting call on January 21 for the reality show, which according to Playbill is seeking actresses 18 and over with strong acting, vocal and dancing skills to compete for the role of Elle Woods in the musical.

The casting notice claims filming for the show will commence in March and last four weeks, Playbill reported.

MTV aired a performance of Broadway’s Legally Blonde in its entirety last October.

NBC’s Winter 2007 Grease: You’re the One that I Want reality competition series searched for the lead roles of Sandy Dumbrowski and Danny Zuko in a Broadway revival of Grease.

Home viewer votes selected Laura Osnes and Max Crumm to play the lead roles during the show’s March finale broadcast and the revival opened in August amongst criticism that Crumm and Osnes were not the favorites of some theater goers.
