“America’s Most Smartest Model” star Andre Birleanu is using a free Legal Aid Society lawyer to help him with his recent brushes with the law in New York.

Birleanu — a working model who has said he is employed at Cipriani, an upscale restaurant — has appeared in Manhattan Criminal Court five times in two weeks to answer misdemeanor molestation and stalking charges involving two women, The New York Post reported Wednesday.

Each time the 25-year-old model appeared in court, he used one of the Society’s lawyers, who are appointed by judges as public defenders for indigent defendants.

A spokeswoman for the Society told the newspaper Birleanu has until his next court date, Dec. 7, to provide proof of indigence or get his own lawyer.

Asked by a reporter why he didn’t just hire his own attorney, Birleanu replied, “It takes a lot of paperwork.”

Birleanu has served several prison stints since 2000 on charges including assault, harassment, criminal contempt, criminal mischief and trespassing, the Post has previously reported.

The new VH1 reality show challenges male and female contestants to compete for the title “America’s Most Smartest Model.”

Billed as a comedic competition show, the series will be moderated by fashionista Mary Alice Stephenson and former presidential speech-writer Ben Stein.

It is to premiere Monday on VH1.com, nearly a week before it airs on VH1.

The cable television station said the goal of the show is to find out if smart models exist.

Throughout the series, 16 models — eight men and eight women — who think they could be the smartest in the United States, will live together as they compete for the title, a $100,000 prize and a gig modeling in an ad campaign for Extreme Style by V05.

In every episode, the models will face challenges that put both their overall intelligence and their beauty to the test, VH1 said.

VH1 has announced America’s Most Smartest Model, a new reality competition series that’s a mixture of America’s Next Top Model and Beauty and the Geek, will premiere on Sunday, October 7 at 9PM ET/PT.

The 14 contestants competing on America’s Most Smartest Model will consist of seven men and seven women. During each installment of the 10-episode series, the “himbos” and “bimbos” will have to pass a series challenges designed to test both their brains and beauty.

Only one will claim the show’s $100,000 grand prize as well as the grammatically incorrect title of “America’s Most Smartest Model.”

Fashion expert Mary Alice Stephenson and comedian Ben Stein will serve as hosts for America’s Most Smartest Model, which was one of several new reality shows VH1 ordered in June to help the network expand to a third night of original programming.

America’s Most Smartest Model is executive produced by Cris Abrego of 51 Pictures and Mark Cronin of Mindless Entertainment.
